Job title: Associate editor and content specialist
Position reports to: Communications Director
Position location: Washington, D.C.
Friends of the Earth is a hard-hitting, progressive, environmental organization that pulls no punches and speaks sometimes uncomfortable truth to power. It's an approach that has worked for four decades to produce important victories that help protect our planet and its people. We’re part of Friends of the Earth International, a federation of groups working in 75 countries on today’s most urgent environmental and social issues.
To accomplish our mission, Friends of the Earth is working at the nexus of environmental protection, economic policy, and social justice to fundamentally transform the way our country and the world value people and the environment. By focusing on reforming economic drivers such as tax or trade policy that are often used to empower corporations and governments to harm the environment, we have been able to make changes in the policies. Friends of the Earth is fighting to champion the environment and create a more healthy and just world.
Friends of the Earth seeks an associate editor and content specialist to expand its communication capabilities to produce, manage and procure content for the organization’s publications, websites and issue materials; including the quarterly membership magazine. This position will work closely with the communications director and other members of the communications department.
The communications associate will be tasked with supporting and backstopping communications team colleagues -- engaging in communications work that supports our policy advocates and helps them win campaigns in the short term, while helping to strengthen Friends of the Earth and the broader progressive and environmental movements in the long run. Under the direction of the Communications director or designee, you will participate in activities including generating media coverage, sending email alerts to activists, writing persuasive blog posts and op-eds, producing social media content, and developing communications and campaign strategies.
