The Campaign for Safe Cosmetics is a coalition of public health, educational, religious, labor, women’s, environmental and consumer groups. Our goal is to protect the health of consumers and workers by requiring the health and beauty industry to phase out the use of chemicals that are known or suspected carcinogens, mutagens and reproductive toxins. This campaign is part of Friends of the Earth's new Cancer Prevention Program, which is dedicated to eliminating the preventable causes of cancer.

Our Health and Environment Program serves to protect the basics: pure food, clean water, breathable air and healthy communities. We continue this vital work to protect the natural world and the human community in the face of new threats, such as genetically engineered food and mad cow disease. We work closely with grassroots groups, concerned individuals and coalitions to improve health and the environment.

Nanotechnology Project: Small Ingredients, Big Risks

Nanotechnology is being heralded as the basis of the next industrial revolution, yet, amidst the hype there are serious questions about the health, environmental and social impacts of this powerful new technology. The Friends of the Earth nanotechnology project aims to catalyze debate on what is set to be one of the defining issues of our time. Find out more.

Safer Foods, Safer Farms
The safety of our food supply is at risk from untested genetically engineered crops to carcingenic pesticides and factory farming. Friends of the Earth is calling on public officials, food processing companies and the agriculture industry to ensure the safety of our food supply. Find out more.

Human Genetic Engineering
Unfortunately, our legal system has not caught up with the new genetic technologies. There are no laws or regulations in place, for instance, to prevent human embryos cloned for therapeutic medical research from being used for human reproduction. We are educating policymakers about the consequences of not having strong enough standards for both human and animal cloning. Find out more.

The Alliance for Cancer Prevention
The Alliance for Cancer Prevention is a national effort based on scientific evidence and led by an alliance of environmental health and justice; public health; women’s health; labor; and scientific research organizations united to eliminate the preventable causes of cancer. Find out more.
