Methodology

The companies that receive subsidies through the U.S. Department of Energy's coal, oil and civilian and military nuclear programs are benefiting at the expense of both taxpayers and the environment. Many of these companies are highly profitable corporations that should not require taxpayer handouts to conduct research. Moreover, because of big congressional campaign donations from these companies, the handouts have become an entrenched part of our government and extremely difficult to eliminate.

To protect taxpayers and the environment, these dirty energy subsidies must be cut. To eliminate the corrupting influence of campaign contributions on the political process, big money must be removed from politics.
