The authors used official sources for the list of companies within each government dirty energy subsidy program. For the fossil fuel research and development program, the Clean Coal Technology Program and the Nuclear Energy Research Initiative, the authors used the Department of Energy's website for the information. The National Ignition Facility contractors came directly from the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory's and the General Atomics' websites. This report errs on the side of caution - if we could not verify the company's role in the program, we left it out.

The PAC and soft money information was compiled by the Frontier Group, a division of the State PIRGs, from information taken from the Federal Election Commission's website. All amounts are for the three and a half election cycles from 1993 to 1999.

The historical subsidy information was estimated from information compiled by the Green Scissors Campaign for the last seven years.
