Democracy

Democracy

Friends of the Earth’s Democracy Team works to establish stronger environmental policies by pushing for democratic institutions.

Our democracy is broken – with our federal agencies more responsive to large corporate lobbyists than to the public interest; and our elected officials more beholden to wealthy donors than to everyday people. We support the wholesale reform of our political system and envision a democracy where everyone participates, every vote is counted, and everyone’s voice is heard.

We also focus our campaign on the state of North Carolina, which is one of the country’s most notoriously gerrymandered states. We have worked with the People Over Politicians coalition in the state to protect voting rights and pass legislation to create an Independent Redistricting Commission.
