It is with great enthusiasm and hope that I greet you as the new president of Friends of the Earth. It is an honor to lead this organization and to be able to work with you as we fight for the future of our planet and the people on it.
We live in a historic time. The imminent threat of climate destabilization, our reliance on fossil fuels instead of clean energy, toxins in our homes and environment and other threats all demand transformational solutions that challenge the political and economic status quo. It is time for a new generation of leaders to fight for these solutions. We must fix the flaws in our economic system that are at the root of many of our environmental and social problems, and fight to transform the political climate that's allowed them to persist.
You are the critical link in this fight, as one of the activists who takes our messages to your political leaders, to your community and to corporations. With every action you take, you amplify our collective voice, build our movement and help us win campaign victories.
Because your engagement is so critical to our mission, I want to start out not just by writing to you, but also by inviting you to share your thoughts about what you hope to see more of from Friends of the Earth.
